Ada Lovelace - 1835
portrait by Margaret Carpenter -1836

Original can be seen at 10 Downing Street, London

LEGEND
This portrait was commissioned just before Ada’s marriage to William, Lord King in July 1835 and painted that autumn. Ada was unhappy about Mrs. Carpenter’s insistance on a short hair style, which she thought made her look “like a crop … dog” and showed too much of her ”capacious jaw bone”.
